Roshan Bhandari | Contemporary Visual Artist

11 Apr 2026 0 comments

Roshan Bhandari is a Kathmandu-based visual artist whose practice moves between introspection and cultural memory. His work reflects a sustained engagement with silence, contemplation, and the inner experience of everyday life, expressed through a personal and evolving visual language.
He completed his Bachelor’s in Fine Arts (Painting) from Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Arts, Pune University, supported by a cultural scholarship from ICCR, and later earned his Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
His early body of work explored the relationship between silence and reflection, giving form to emotions and thoughts that often remain unspoken. Over time, his focus has shifted toward the preservation and reinterpretation of Nepali folk tales and folklore.
Drawing from stories once shared through oral traditions, his paintings reimagine cultural narratives through contemporary visual storytelling. Rather than illustrating folklore directly, his work opens space for interpretation, allowing past and present to exist in dialogue.
In an era of rapid change, his practice reflects a commitment to sustaining cultural memory while offering new ways of seeing. Through layered imagery and symbolic forms, his work carries both reflection and continuity.
Alongside his studio practice, Roshan Bhandari has contributed significantly to art education, curation, and cultural management. Over a decade, he has been involved in shaping academic and artistic environments, supporting emerging artists and broader cultural dialogue.
His work has been presented in group exhibitions in Nepal and internationally, including India, Italy, and Bangladesh. His contributions have been recognized through several awards within both artistic and academic contexts.
